Is My Galaxy A Ghia X?

When we bought our Galaxy it was advertised as a 1.9 tdi galaxy Ghia X but now I am not so sure ,this has come to light after reading the hand book about where the rear A/C vents were ,the hand book says they should be in the roof but ours does not have vents in the roof so I phoned up a ford dealership in Milton Keynes and they could not tell me if it was a Ghia X or not they said there system says its a Ghia ,it does have Ghia badges on the front wings but I know that does not mean its the real thing,so my question is what spec should a 1999 Ghia X have or how can I find out ,Ford said to bring the car along to the dealership and a salesman would look over the car and tell me what it is ,I really thought they would be able to find the spec it was built to via they records , any thoughts would be helpful.

If it's a Ghia X there should be 'Ghia X' badges on the front wings, just below the indicator lamps. Mine has those badges, but doesn't have the roof AC vents you mentioned - I think that might be some optional extra in the climate control system or something.

no where as you dont have ac for the rear, you have a recyling unit in the rear that either heats or blows ambient temp air around via the vents in the rear quarter panel trim, or you blow ac air to the rear via the vents at floor level behind the hand brake

As far as I'm aware rear a/c was an additional option even on the Ghia X.

 

I would say that if you have climate control and not manual a/c then you have the Ghia X. Enjoy the toys........

I'm sticking with Ghia :) and yep rear ac was an option on the GhiaX and atc was standard on both models

I seem to recall that there was a Ghia X version of the Mark I, but not the Mark II. The Mark I was either a GLX, Ghia or Ghia X and the Mk II LX, Zetec or Ghia. And I think the headlining mounted air vents appeared as standard as part of a model year change during the life of the vehicle.

 

Ghia X had larger alloy wheels among other things, and should have "Ghia X" badges. If yours only says "Ghia", then I suspect it is a Ghia.

 

Did you get a receipt for the car ? What did that say ? Did you buy it from a dealer ? If so, you may have some recourse...

 

Another thought is to take it to a dealer and ask for a P/X value against another Ford - they will probably work out what it is then. As you say, it should be identifiable from the VIN, if you understand the codes.

It does have Ghia X badges on the front wings and some big alloys on ,the car was bought privately but I really dont think the people who sold it were trying it on as they were very genuine people.

I think I will go along to a dealer and see what they say.

I think it will say what model it is on the V5 log book? The "ghia X" badges are easy to buy off ebay so I wouldn't go on those alone but if you have all the toys like both rear quarters open and heated front seats then it's a safe bet you have the Ghia X. The cloth seats on the Ghia X have a thicker pile on the unpatterned part, they "stripe" as you hoover them.

 

On the roof vents question - I have a Ghia with this option, there is a vent above each of the 5 rear seats that blows cold or warm air (controlled from the climate control panel in the front) but I understand that you can't have a sunroof as well as these roof vents as all the ducting flattens out to go across the roof lining etc.

I had a Mk1 2.8 GhiaX and it did not have rear ceiling vents, dual air conditioning was an option when I ordered it.

Well ,I have been into Ford dealership this morning and it looks like we have been done over as the Galaxy we have bought is a Ghia not a Ghia X ,as the car was bought privately have we any chance of getting anything back ?? I also noticed the people we bought it off bought the car from a company called "just diesels" and they sold it as a Ghia NOT a Ghia X so the owner we got it off sold it as a Ghia X so its him who has been abit naughty.

 

Any ideas where we can go from here??

And to be honest, some ford technicians dont know their arse from their elbow when it comes to galaxys. why do you think you can get a diagnoses on here quicker and for free than at a ford garage?? :rolleyes:

Ghia X was the top of the range in 98/9, heated seats were standard on Ghia X's, your come back on the seller? whats he going to say? oops sorry mate I though it was a Ghia X ...... doesnt it say on the paperwork? if it is on the paperwork that it's only a lowly Ghia and you payed extra for the X, then you got screwed by the seller and your own stupidity! sorry but you did ask?

legally the seller has to list the vehicle correctly ie the vehicle should not be misrepresented and it should match its description, so you may have some come back?

oh and how long did the last owner have it for?

When we arrived to see the car the first thing I saw was the GHIA X badges on the front wings so the fact that it might not be one went straight out of my head after that , so I suppose it is my fault for not checking the paper work more closely and another thing I would do next time is leave the kids (2 and 5 years old) with someone in the family as they were a big distraction on the day , its not there fault but it did not help matters .

The wife is more than happy with it so I suppose thats the important thing.

I have also bought and sold a lot of cars over the years without any problems so I suppose its just my turn to get rolled over anyway it could worse it could be the wrong chassis number or something .

I have a Ghia X, and mine states it on the log book and when i put my reg onto any car insurance site, so try their to confirm it.

As mine is a 2.3 petrol mk1 i defo dont have the rear aircon unit only the heater matrix under n/s rear seat.

 

I have same extras as you but also have heated front seats, sunroof, rear parking sensors with LED display. i also have CD changer in the back and the chrome trim round number plate but you may have that as i thought the last two were an ghia x standard addon.

Ok, had a talk with a friend...what come back do you have,,

 

if i remember it right, you could always use the parkers used car price guide, see how much a Ghia for that year and all toys is, then see how much a Ghia X is,

 

If say, a Ghia Is around 2k for what you got, and a ghia X is 3k and say you paid 3k.... you could go back to the seller and explain the car was misrepresented, and you paid for a car which isnt as described, i.e. a lower spec model when you believed it was a higher spec model and paid accordingly.

 

you could, if the seller refuses to refund the 1k difference, take him to court for the difference.

 

Now..the figures i used are off the top of my head and hyperthetical.

 

 

Hope that i make sense, but you do have some come back in this. As you paid for a Ghia X and NOT A ghia.

 

Its worth a shot.

 

Go back to the seller...see what they say.

 

But use a guide price site, like parkers.
